    Sure to be a crowd-pleaser for a game day party, a gathering with friends, or just a day when you’re craving some bar food at home.

    Key ingredients

    Bone-in chicken wings - Wings can come from the store or butcher split or in one piece. If they are still connected, cut them up so that you have both a drumette and a flat wing from each.  

    Tomato Sauce - Canned tomato sauce gives body and a natural sweetness. 

    Balsamic vinegar - The deep flavor of balsamic adds a ton of character to the sauce, don’t skip this!

    Paprika - Adds flavor, spice, and color to your wing sauce.

    Variations

    This recipe makes a savory barbecue flavored wing, but you can adjust the seasonings.

    Spicy, add 2-3 tablespoons of dried chili peppers and reduce the balsamic vinegar to 3 tablespoons. Or simply dip in your favorite keto friendly hot sauce when they are finished. 

    Smokey, reduce the balsamic vinegar to 2 tablespoons, add 2 tablespoons granulated sweetener like Lakanto, and 1 teaspoon of liquid smoke.

    Sweet, reduce the balsamic to 2 tablespoons and add 2-3 tablespoons granulated sweetener like Lakanto.

    Step 1: Place chicken wings on baking sheet and salt and pepper the wings.

    Step 2: Whisk the remaining ingredients together in a small bowl.

    Step 3: Brush wings with sauce and bake for 15 minutes.

    Step 4: Turn wings over and brush with sauce. Bake for an additional 15 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165ºF.

    Expert Tip

    How to cut chicken wings.

    Your chicken wings may come from the store still intact. There are three pieces to each wing: The small drumstick, the flat wingette, and the tip. 

    Place the blade of a larger chef's knife across the joint between the wing and drumstick. Using a flat palm with fingers extended away from the blade, place your other hand on the back of the blade and press firmly to separate the parts.

    FAQs

    What dipping sauces to try?

    If you would like to have a dipping sauce for your wings, you can simply use the remaining BBQ sauce. An herby ranch or blue cheese dressing also goes great with these wings.

    Can I use store bought BBQ sauce instead?

    If you don't have all the ingredients on hand to make the BBQ sauce, just pick up a bottle of keto friendly BBQ sauce at your local store. G Hughes has a great variety of BBQ sauce flavors to choose from.

    Can I cook these wings on the grill?

    These wings taste great cooked on the grill. Simply salt and pepper them before placing on a heated grill (medium heat). Brush on the sauce after cooking for 7 minutes, then flip over. Brush the other side and cook for another 7 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.

    • 24 bone-in chicken wings
    • salt and pepper
    • 1 6-oz. can tomato sauce
    • 4 oz. filtered water
    • ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
    • 2 tablespoon coconut aminos
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • ½ teaspoon paprika
