    Why you'll love it

This simple recipe uses fresh ingredients and is made anytime without using dip or soup packets.

A low carb and naturally gluten-free dish that makes enough to serve a large crowd - about 4 cups of dip.

Pair your dip with our keto tortilla chips.

    Key ingredients

Ingredients for making keto spinach dip in individual bowls and plates.

Frozen spinach - We use frozen spinach because it is so much easier than fresh, which you will need to cook before using.

Worcestershire sauce - Adds a savory flavor to your dip. It's our secret ingredient.

If you have any questions about this easy dip recipe, please leave a comment below and we will get back to you.

    Substitutions

Sour cream - We have used full fat Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream in this recipe and it works well.

Our Instant Pot cracked chicken can also be enjoyed as a savory dip.

How to make keto spinach dip

Thawed frozen spinach in a kitchen towel with the water being wrung out over a glass bowl.

Step 1: Thaw the spinach and squeeze out all of the liquid. You want "dry" spinach to mix with the creamy ingredients.

Thawed frozen spinach being chopped fine on a wooden cutting board.

Step 2: Chop finely, into small pieces.

Bowl with mayonnaise and sour cream being mixed together.

Step 3: In a small mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise and sour cream. Mix well.

Spices and Worcestershire sauce being mixed into the mayo and sour cream mixture.

Step 4: Add in the spices and mix until well combined.

Spinach being added to the mixture.

Step 5: Stir in the spinach.

    Fully mixed keto spinach dip.

Step 6: Mix until the spinach is evenly incorporated throughout the dip.

You can serve right away but we prefer to let it chill in the refrigerator for an hour or so. Serve with your favorite keto bread, keto crackers, or chopped low carb veggies.

Don't forget to serve your guest dessert. Make our smooth and creamy keto cheesecake. They won't have a clue that it's low carb.

    Expert tip

We tested this spinach keto dip recipe with regular mayo, light mayo, avocado oil mayo, and coconut oil mayo.

Regular full fat mayonnaise - This was our favorite. It had the best flavor and texture overall. We also like using full fat mayo in our classic keto deviled eggs recipe.

Low fat mayonnaise - The flavor was satisfying, just a lighter and the dip was a thinner consistently.

Avocado oil mayonnaise - We really like the unique flavor and it is a healthier version.

Coconut oil mayonnaise - This version wasn't our favorite. You couldn't taste the coconut but it had a vinegar zing to it.

For another recipe that uses fresh ingredients, try our crisp cucumber salsa or our easy 4 ingredient guacamole.

    FAQs

Can I use fresh spinach to make this keto spinach dip?

Yes, you can use fresh spinach to make this spinach dip. Chop the stems off of 12 ounces of fresh spinach and cook it in a skillet with a little oil.
Once the spinach has cooked down, let it cool to room temperature. Squeeze the liquid out just like you would with frozen spinach.
You can use your hands or a paper towel to remove the water from the cooked spinach. Spinach has a lot of liquid so keep squeezing. Once all the liquid is removed, chop the spinach and add it to your dip.

Why is my spinach dip watery?

You most likely didn't wring your spinach enough before making your dip. It is crucial to try and get as much water out as possible.

Can I make this spinach dip ahead?

Yes! This dip is perfect for making the day ahead of any gathering. The flavor profile will actually get better.

    Storage

Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

If you wish to freeze your spinach dip, (in case of using fresh cooked spinach) allow it to cool to room temperature first. A ziplock freezer bag works well, remove all of the air before sealing. Freeze for up to 60 days.

To defrost, thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Texture may change slightly after freezing.

    Equipment

    • 1 Glass Mixing Bowls

    Ingredients

    Spinach Dip:

    • 10 oz. frozen spinach chopped
    • ¾ cup mayonnaise
    • 1 ¼ cups sour cream
    • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 2 teaspoons onion powder
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt

    Instructions

    • Thaw the spinach and squeeze as much water out as you can. Wring it like a towel, not kidding.
    • Chop up the spinach until its fine. The reason I recommend chopping it is because the spinach stems get stringy in the dip if you leave them whole. Even with pre chopped frozen spinach.
    • In a small mixing bowl, mix the mayonnaise and sour cream.
    • Add in the Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder and salt.
    • Stir in the spinach and mix until everything is combined.
    • Chill for at least an hour.

Squeeze the the liquid out just like you would with frozen spinach. You can use your hands or a paper towel. Spinach has a lot of liquid so keep squeezing until no more big drips of liquid come out. Once all the liquid is removed, chop the spinach and then add it to your dip.

      Hello,
So I’ve begun my keto journey and wish to prepare your spinach dip which looks very delicious.
Can you please suggest some options as what to serve with it that is extremely low in carbs other than raw veggies?
      Thanks a million!

Pork rinds and cheese crisps or cheese chips are both great options that are low in carbs.

This was really good. . I used Japanese Kewpie Mayo. What about adding cream cheese? does that still make it keto? So for the 3/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 1/4 cups sour cream currently in recipe, instead I would try 1/2 cup Mayo, 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup softened cream cheese.

        Hi Mary,
I'm so glad you liked it. You can add cream cheese, just make sure to add the carbs if you're counting macro.

My family loves this! The little ones call it fat girl spinach dip. My 6year old granddaughter loves making it. It never makes enough for family gathering lol. I love the fact that the little's dive into it and are getting a nutritious green. I use half and half mixture of sour cream and yogurt
