    Why you'll Love it

This is our go-to recipe for all things gravy. This recipe only requires a few ingredients, including broth (or cooled turkey drippings) – and you can switch up the type of broth you use in this five minute keto gravy recipe to make it work for the meal you are serving.

Also, this gravy recipe is fail proof (as long as you keep stirring while it cooks and thickens) and it's ready in five minutes.

This easy low carb gravy recipe is smooth and savory and a huge hit in my house of picky eaters – so I had to share it with you.

My Mother and I love gravy so much, that we make it anytime my husband makes our beef bottom round roast recipe.

    Reader Testimonial

I was really anxious to use xantham gum but this realllly easy recipe was so yummy! I will definitely use this again. Thanks for all the tips about using room temperature ingredients. Nothing separated or got lumpy - frickin awesome! Thanks! Jeanie

    Key ingredients

Measuring cup with broth and 3 small white dishes. 1 with butter, 1 with seasonings, and 1 with xanthan gum.

Butter - Butter makes this keto gravy recipe what it is. It adds flavor, fat, and really helps pull everything together. You can use dairy-free butter if you like, but if you do, you'll want to leave out the additional salt due to how salty dairy-free is.

Broth or Drippings - You can use broth, drippings, or bone broth to make this low carb gravy. The trick is making sure it's at room temperature, or cold, so the xanthan doesn't clump.

Xanthan Gum - We find xanthan gum to be best keto gravy thickener as it makes the gravy silky smooth, and thick.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below and I will get back to you.

    Substitutions

Butter - You can use dairy-free butter in place of the butter in this low carb gravy recipe. Dairy-free butter tends to be saltier. Do a taste test before adding any salt.

Broth - All broth options work (chicken, turkey, veggie, beef).

If you want to make a turkey gravy or use other meat drippings, like bone broths, let it come to room temperature first. Also, test to see how strong the flavor is, you might want to add water.

If you don’t have broth or turkey drippings, you can use bullion cubes to make broth.

Xanthan Gum - If you would prefer a keto gravy without xanthan gum, you can use 2 tablespoons of arrowroot powder, but you'll want to update the macros for this recipe.

We love enjoying this around the holidays, especially with our keto cornbread or easy almond flour biscuits.

    How to make keto gravy

silver pot containing all keto gravy ingredients

Step 1: Add all the ingredients to a small pot and whisk until the xanthan is absorbed. There may be a few clumps on the top, but don't worry, those will cook out.

Silver pot containing cooked keto gravy

Step 2: Turn on your stove to medium-high heat. Bring your low carb gravy to a boil and continue to whisk for one minute. It should take about five minutes from start to finish.

For another super quick recipe, make our keto chocolate mug cake. It's ready to enjoy in a few minutes.

    Top tip

A quick tip that YOU MUST READ. This will really help you make the perfect fail-proof keto gravy.

Start with cold ingredients (or room temperature).

Put all the ingredients in the pot THEN heat. If you don’t your xanthan will clump - the same with most starches.

    FAQs

Can you make gravy in advance?

Yes, you can make it a day or two ahead. You'll need to reheat it in a pan on the stove, or in a microwave at low heat. We often have leftovers and it reheats well.

I forgot to add the xanthan before I cooked the other ingredients, what do I do?

If you forgot to add the xanthan before cooking, mix the xanthan in a bowl with 2 tablespoons of cold broth or cooled turkey drippings, then add it to the hot ingredients.
Keep boiling the low carb gravy, and stirring until you reach the desired thickness.

    Is gravy keto?

Traditional gravy is not keto friendly as its made using regular flour, which is high in carbs. That is why we came up with this recipe which has less than 1 net carb per serving.

a white plate with gravy on mashed cauliflower, slices of ham. cranberry jelly and asparagus.

    Storage

Fridge: Place gravy in an airtight container or jar and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Freezer: This gravy freezes very nicely for up to 3 months.

Reheating Instructions: When you are ready to enjoy it, bring it to room temperature. It will separate a little. Just whisk it to combine as you reheat.

        Hi Therese,
Thank you so much for asking. we haven't tried glucomannan in our keto gravy, but from what we've read, it is a one to one replacement. So you would use 1 teaspoon. I hope it comes out great. Happy Thanksgiving.

You can add a cooked turnip to the cauliflower mashed to make it more potato-like it's low carb
